youth by becoming a corporate or business sponsor.
Throughout
the years, the Foundation has had a number of generous and
helpful sponsors, one of which is Saturn of Florence which
started the Goal Scoring Program.
Goal
Scoring Program
In November
1993, the Scott Christian Memorial Soccer Foundation, Inc.,
teamed up with Saturn of Florence to start the Goal Scoring
Program. For each goal scored during the high school soccer
season, Saturn of Florence donates a designated amount to
the Scott Christian Memorial Scholarship. This applies to
both the girls/boys teams. Since Scott played soccer for
Boone County High School, the Goal Scoring Program applies
to the Boone County High School soccer program. This is one
way the players can contribute to the scholarship program.
In 1991 when
the Car Show was held at the Cincinnati Convention Center,
Scott and his brother Gordon went to the show. Scott came
home all excited about the Saturn and how neat it was and
that was the car he wanted to buy when he got his license.
Unfortunately, that never happened as Scott was killed on
October 4, 1992.
On Scott’s
first anniversary his parents went to Saturn of Florence
with the intent of buying his car, the SC. The salesman,
Mike Morris, was so touched by the story of why they wanted
to buy a Saturn he talked to the manager, Coby Sweeney and
in November the Goal Scoring Program was started.
Scott's
parents bought a 1993 SC1 2-door turquoise coupe. (Note the
SC is also Scott’s initials, SC).
Since 1993
Saturn of Florence has graciously been associated with the
Goal Scoring Program and has donated close to $10,000.00 to
the scholarship program.
